Associate Professor Tan Tin Wee Member, Scientific Advisory Committee
Associate Professor Tan Tin Wee (PhD Edinburgh, MA London, BA Cambridge) has been with the Department of Biochemistry, YLL School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) for 25 years. During this period he served in various capacities and distinguished himself in the multidisciplinary areas of Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and Internet technologies. He rose to the Board Directorship in the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) for three consecutive elected terms of nearly ten years, served as founding Secretariat of the Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet) since 1998 and coordinated one of Asia Pacific’s oldest conferences, the International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB) since 2002.
For his many achievements in the Internet space since 1991, from WAIS, Gopher, Web, VRML, videocasting, Java, databases, multilingual websites, internationalised domain names, advanced research networking, Internet for disability communities, founding leadership efforts in APNG, APAN, APNIC, APRICOT, APTLD, APSIRC, APCERT, etc, he was inducted into the Inaugural Internet Hall of Fame in 2012 as well as accorded numerous international awards and recognition over the past three decades.
He has been involved in several start-up companies (IDNS.net International, Knorex) and sits on the boards of listed companies (including Keppel DC REIT, Keppel T&T), advisory boards of educational institutions, and served 20 years amongst students as residential hall fellow of Sheares Hall and Master of Eusoff Hall in NUS.
He is currently involved in various projects such as fish vaccine with Kuhlbarra and UVaxx, with Nanyang Polytechnic where he has served for more than ten years as Academic Advisory Board of Life Sciences. He is currently Chairman of A*STAR Computational Resource Centre (A*CRC) where he is spearheading the formation of the Singapore National Supercomputing Centre, and pioneering the experimental innovation and deployment of a new high performance supercomputing network connection protocol, InfiniBand, over global distances, and pioneering new applications for this as the precursor to a global Internet 2.0 network connectivity for research and education. In 2015, he is appointed the Director of National Supercomputing Centre in the Republic of Singapore.
Dr Wong Luh Cherng Member, Scientific Advisory Committee
Dr Wong is a Principal Lecturer (Technology) in the School of Applied Science at the Republic Polytechnic of Singapore.
He has been the Principal Investigator for various projects in the areas of renewable biomass energy, solar-assisted air dehumidification, and functional food product development using food-manufacturing by-products. His projects are mostly funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Ministry of National Development (MND) and the Totalisator Board of Singapore.
In his previous career at the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board, and Singapore Institute for Standards and Industrial Research, he led the Advanced Materials Technology Center in which he conducted contract research, failure analysis and materials characterisation for the industry. Prior to his career in Singapore, he headed the Materials and Structural Analysis Group at the Defense Research Establishment Valcartier in Quebec, Canada, where he researched on nanocrystal and advanced materials. His first career as an engineer focused on designing test rigs for sea-ice to ice-breaking ship interaction at the Memorial University Newfoundland.
Dr Wong holds a Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba (Canada), Master of Mechanical (Manufacturing focus) Engineering from Peoria University (USA), and Doctor of Philosophy in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Queen’s University (Canada). At Republic Polytechnic of Singapore, he leads several student service-learning trips to Cambodia to implement clay-stove manufacturing and rice-field aquaculture. Through his current hobby in watercolour painting, he expresses his aspiration for protecting the natural ecosystem.
Michael Randolph Member, Scientific Advisory Committee
Michael Randolph was an Associate Principal with McKinsey & Company, and had more than 8 years of experience with the Firm. Based in Atlanta, Michael has led a range of projects to help clients address issues related to corporate strategy, operations, and technology. Michael has worked with clients in a broad set of industries including pharmaceuticals, real estate, chemicals, oil & gas, mining, basic materials, and etc.
During his career at McKinsey, Michael has substantial international business experience through helping clients with global expansion and operations engagements in North America, Central & South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Michael worked for Jacobs Engineering Group in both engineering and business development roles.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, and a Master of Engineering degree in Materials Science & Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
